Idea for new user group

This morning I’ve been downloading different blog engines and CMS systems from CodePlex for a personal project I’m working on.   While looking through some of the code in Visual Studio and Reflector, I started thinking … wouldn’t it be cool to get a group of developers together and go over different projects and get discussions going on their thoughts of the code (sort of like Scott Hanselman’s Weekly Source Code blog entries – but with a group of people).

Are there any user groups out there that are like this every meeting?  Seems most user groups focus on a technology, product or aspect (like architecture).

Some things that would be nice for this type of group:

  • Provide the list of projects ahead of time
  • Record the sessions (audio and video – or at least screen capture like a webcast)
  • Some sort of template to use for the structure of how to go through the projects … (not sure of other people’s thoughts on this, but I think it would help to know what to expect the presentation/walk though is going to be like if you want the group to be involved with the discussion)
  • Mix of technologies and languages
  • A web site for the group to keep an archive of the sessions and overviews/notes of the sessions (maybe a blog or wiki format)

Anyone interested in helping start a group like this?  Anyone have some refining thoughts on this type of group?
