It's been awhile since I've updated my web site (still in .net 1.1), but now I've decided to use it as a reason to get up to speed on .Net 3.5 - especially the new Asp.Net stuff ... so I just ordered Professional ASP.NET 3.5: In C# and VB (Programmer to Programmer)
and ASP.NET 3.5 Unleashed
. Both books have great reviews - and I have both of those books for the 2.0 version.
First thing I have to address is the .Text for a blog engine ... that isn't going to work for my upgrade so I need to think about build, buy or open source/freeware. Do I really want to write another blog engine ... no, not really. Would it give me a chance to learn more new .net 3.5 stuff? ... maybe, but again do I really want to write a blog engine ...
Next thing I need to think about is what I want to do with the site. Might try and make it more of a useful content oriented site ... maybe strive to do some of that writing of original content that I keep hinting about. Since I've been doing mostly link blogs for the past couple of years, my writing (and ability to describe things in general) have gone down hill - use it or loose it right?
Another nice thing would be to make at least enough money off the site to pay for the hosting costs ... which to me means probably something besides google ads and amazon associate links (I just started those last week). In case anyone is curious, I currently make around $10 a month on the google ads, which doesn't quite pay for the site ... so I've got to look into what others are doing. Of course right now the main purpose of the site is to give me a location to put my stuff that other people might be interested as well as give me a place to play around with asp.net (which is now a problem because my vista machine doesn't have .net 1.1 on it)...
