April 8 2007, Personal Update (no technical content)

by Jason Haley 8. April 2007 15:01

Its been awhile since I've updated my readers with what is going on in my life - so feel free to skip this entry.

Disclaimer: Since this entry is published on the internet, it is an attempt to cover some personal aspects of my life but not too personal ... something we all have to remember.

Today I finally signed up for the Colorado Colfax Half Marathon, which I plan on running with my brother in May.  We ran the Chicago marathon back in 2001 (wow 6 years ago already!) ... which took a lot of time to train ... 13.1 should be a bit easier.  My friend Dave Burke just ran a Half Marathon this weekend up in Vermont.  After talking to him about his training last weekend, I've decided I really need to get my miles and number of runs up ... no more running 2 -3 times a week, I need to get up to 4 - 5 times a week.

Last weekend I had a few people comment on how I looked a little thinner than I use to ... to which I had to admit that I had lost 30 pounds since 2 years ago (my heaviest was a couple of months after the wedding at 181! - I've never been a big or muscular guy so that was quite a big number for me).  How did I loose it?  Basically I just did what everyone knows you should do: eat less junk and exercise more ... consistently ... and keep doing it at a rate of loosing only a pound a week on average.  I found exercising 4 - 5 times a week seems to work best to maintain a weight or loose weight for my body - were before I always thought 3 times a week was good ... getting older stinks sometimes :(

Hard to believe we've been in Seattle now for just under a year.  I would have to say Seattle and Boston are different in a lot of ways ... but mostly Seattle just feels different than Boston.  I'll have to post a more interesting entry on their differences one of these days.

I'm also starting to study for the GRE ... not looking forward to that - but it is necessary to get into a masters program.  I'm planning on starting a masters in software engineering at Seattle University this fall ... but haven't committed to anything yet.

As you might have noticed, I have also decided to get back to blogging more.  The past couple of months, I haven't been reading very many blogs or writing many entries ... and strange enough I wasn't too motivated either.  I also felt like, I didn't have any idea of what was going on outside of work, my personal life and a little bit of news that I watch in the mornings ... so I decided to get back to it.  I've only been back at it for a week and have already noticed that my creativity and motivation is improving ... isn't that weird?

Well it is Sunday night and the weekend is almost over, so I need to get this published and get some work done on a Reflector addin I've been working on...
