Moving plans are coming along very well and things are finally getting close enough to actually start completing things (instead of just planning and tuning the plan). Here is the high level 'Move West' project plan:
1. Find place to live
2. Find jobs
3. Move
It's an easy 1, 2, 3 project ;) We hope to have #1 complete and finalized in the next 3 weeks (flying to Seattle second weekend of April to finish this), while work on #2 and #3 will still continue for the next 6 to 8 weeks.
Numbers 2 and 3 may have their order reversed depending on our job search results, but hopefully we'll both have jobs that start in the early to mid-May range.
Here are some of the sub items on my job search:
1. Get http://jasonhaley.com redesigned and up (complete)
2. Update and redo resume (complete)
3. Start preping for interviews by brushing up on stuff I use to do on a day to day basis (ie. Asp.net, javascript, etc.) (on going)
4. Apply for some positions at Microsoft that I think would be a good fit (if any) (on going)
5. Prep for phone interviews
6. Apply for some positions in the downtown area and elsewhere
7. Prep more for actual interviews
8. Interview
9. Find best fitting position
10. Accept offer ;)
As of today, things are on schedule.
I had forgotten how much I love web stuff though, so I am really trying to get up to speed on things I have missed out on in the past year or so and am really enjoying it. Which leads me to - what type of position am I looking for? You know the kind of question - “If you could design you next position, what would it be?”. I am now looking at jobs and thinking about exactly that (and piecing together a job description of my dream job). What type of position does a guy who loves web stuff AND low level CLR stuff really want?
BTW: I wish I could be at Mix '06 this week in Las Vagas, but I have other things that need to be done - dental surgery :(
