I took the 70-300 exam last Friday and did not pass it. I guess I should have listened to all of you how made comments back in March about reading comprehension and getting the Transcender for it.
Reasons why I think I didn't pass it (planning on taking it again in a couple of weeks, so I'll let you know if this is right):
- Reading comprehension - never been one of my best qualities. My SAT was REAL heavy on math compared to verbal.
- Case Study style exam - wasn't ready for this. There are two case study exams in the back of the exam cram book, but the idiot that I am thought they would be good to save for the last (should have done these first)
- Experience - the majority of my experience (6 years of it) has been in IT departments of large insurance/financial companies. The three levels of design - conceptual, logical, physical has usually been lumped in somewhere between the time the business analyst throws it over their cube wall to land on my desk and whatever is left of the scheduled time line I have to get the solution into production. I actually surprised myself at how lousy I scored on the logical and physical design sections (not a pleasant surprise either)
I am pretty sure that if the exam was all multiple choice (with no case studies) I would have passed it. So this thought is helping drive myself into learning more about the MSF and actually using it on one of my side projects (lighthouse). This time I am also buying the Transcender. I'll keep you posted.
